Walking on rainbows (Only in Iceland)

Sunday, Day 3 Our third day in Iceland started with us waking up impressed by the fact that our tent hadn’t blown away during the night. The wind had calmed down and it looked like it was gonna be a warm(ish) and sunny day. So we cooked our oatmeals and coffees and packed up our gear. Seljalandsfoss & Seljavallalaug Zwembad Thermal pool We started our trip by heading to another waterfall called Seljalandsfoss. You can actually walk behind this waterfall, and get some amazing pictures, not to mention it’s a lot of fun. Slippery and muddy, but fun. I’m not surprised that this is also one of the most visited places in Iceland.  After that we felt like taking a swim at a thermal pool called Seljavallalaug Zwembad close by, and I can tell you that that was one pool with a pretty sweet view. The pool is situated in a canyon with a river running in the middle of it. So basically you just walk a short trail and hop into a warm pool, relax and enjoy. And this was all f...

Iceland: Reykjanes peninsula & the Golden Circle

Iceland:  Day 1 & 2 If I ever had any doubts about why do people want to visit Iceland, I can tell you that they're all gone now. Now I completely understand. It is our third day now in this magical country and we are definitely running out of places to see.  On our first night we drove to our camping site in Grindavik, which turned out to be a really well equipped campground. The place had a big common room for people to eat, a kitchen and cooking supplies, lots of bathrooms and showers and even wifi! We also discovered that people leave a lot of stuff (mainly food and cooking gas) behind for all the other campers to use, so this was very useful too.  Gunnuhver & Reykjanes Peninsula  The weather was beautiful but windy, as it is pretty much everyday is Iceland. We decided to make a short drive around some hot springs (Gunnuhver) close to the camping site, and got a good first example of Iceland's fierce nature. Warning signs of ho...

Today is a day for many first times. This is the first time in my life I’m actually traveling north for a holiday. There have been a few moments that I thought to myself “what the hell was I thinking?”, and then I see some amazing pictures of Icelandic nature, and I go “ohh yeah, makes sense.” I’m also packing up my new never-used 68 liter backpack, and going on a 11-day camping trip for the first time in my life. That also includes me driving a rental car all around the country. That’s right. No buses, trains or tours. So Icelanders be aware. Going on a camping trip to Iceland was a random idea I came up with and pitched it to my boyfriend. Random ideas happen all the time in my case, and now, months later, I’m actually impressed that we ended up going through with it! Well, I’m always up for trying something new and this was no exception. So here we go. When we started to plan our trip, there was a lot of things to consider. Good camping equipment was one. Icelandic weather ...

I decided it was time. Sometimes I forget how much I love writing, and then I need a little reminder. For months I've been thinking about starting a blog but for one reason or another it took me all this time to actually do it. Because, well.. what if no one actually reads it? Then I hear a little voice in my head telling me "Mia, there will probably be a lot of people who will never ever read it. Now, is that a reason why you should not do it? NO! So get off your narcissistic ass and just start writing for the fun of it! Who cares if no one reads it! This should be just something fun you do for yourself, right?" That voice can sometimes be quite harsh, sometimes even rude, but I can't say it doesn't have a point once in a while... So I got off my somewhat narcissistic ass I guess, and just started creating. So, what is my blog about? I wanna say that of course I should write about something that I actually know best. And that is my life. But before you f...
